Save money with DIY spa and beauty products

Everyone loves a trip to the spa or salon, but that is often an expense that doesn’t fit in the budget. You can still enjoy the luxury of beauty products without paying high prices by doing some DIY.

Colour your own nail polish

Clear nail polish is usually cheaper to buy than the coloured variety. Did you know that you can tint it by using eyeshadow? Custom colours for a fraction of the price!

Olive oil hair treatment

Olive oil isn’t just good for your heart, it is good for your hair too. Heat olive oil in the microwave and apply to your hair. Cover in a plastic bag and let it sit for about half an hour. Rinse out and wash well. It’s great for repairing split ends.

Honey facial mask

Brew a cup of chamomile tea and let it cool. Stir together with a tsp of honey with a tsp of oatmeal. Mix together and add tea until it forms a paste. Apply to your face (keeping away from your eyes) and let sit for about 15-20 minutes. Rinse completely. These ingredients will cleanse and exfoliate nicely.

DIY moisturizer

Combine about 5 tbsp. cocoa butter with ¾ cup of almond oil. Add a few drops of lavender or orange extract (depending on your preferred scent). Mix with distilled water until a lotion is formed. Make sure to seal in an airtight container.

DIY spa scents

One of the best parts of going to the spa is the signature scents that you inhale as soon as you go in the door. You can diffuse your own scents at home.

Mix together a ¼ cup of oil and a tsp of vodka (or water). Place a half dozen bamboo skewers in a vase and pour the oil mixture into the vase. Add a few drops of essential oils, and you would swear that you are in the spa.
