Saying “I Don’t” to Wedding Debt

Wedding costs create a burden on guests, too

Weddings are joyous occasions, and it is considered an honour when the bride or groom asks you to join the wedding party.  But it isn’t cheap.  Bridesmaids and groomsmen can spend a couple hundred or a couple thousand dollars for the pleasure of joining the wedding party.  And for those that often find themselves in wedding parties – the classic “always the bridesmaid” characters – the costs can be overwhelming.

Jeff Schwartz, executive director of Consolidated Credit, worries that Canadians are compelled to join the wedding party, even if it means going into debt to pay for the expenses.

Schwartz spoke with Sun Country FM in High River, Alberta, about ways Canadians can avoid the deep debt of wedding bills.
